Katerre means “ All Good ” in the Yanomami language — and that’s exactly what we’ve been trying to provide for over 20 years. Sailing along the rivers of the Western Amazon, the Katerre Expedition offers a unique experience that combines comfort, safety and authenticity in every detail. Our itineraries explore the region’s most preserved and symbolic sanctuaries, revealing lush natural landscapes, wildlife and the rich cultural expressions of the Amazonian peoples.
Our Seeds
learn about the socio-environmental projects we support
Based in Novo Airão (Amazonas), 200 km from Manaus, the Almerinda Malaquias Foundation (FAM) is a non-governmental organization that operates in three main areas:
Income Generation – providing professional training and capacity building through woodworking and marquetry design, a craft that ensures a steady income for around 50 families.
Supplementary Environmental Education – offering after-school programs for approximately 200 children, with the goal of preparing them to lead environmental solutions that generate income and help preserve the forest.
Riverside Education Project – dedicated to the construction or renovation of 23 schools in remote riverside communities across the vast territory of Novo Airão.
Craftsmen and artisans from Novo Airão keep alive the tradition of weaving with arumã fiber, creating baskets, mats and hampers based on knowledge inherited from the Baré indigenous ethnic group of the Upper Rio Negro.
The process involves collectively preparing the fibers, which are then harvested and washed, scraped and dyed with natural pigments before being skillfully woven.
AANA was founded in 1996 as a result of the Fibrarte Project of the Vitória Amazônica Foundation, with the purpose of promoting handicrafts with plant fibers as an alternative way of generating income for women in the region.
The Association of Artisans of the Jauaperi River (AARJ) is an initiative of a group of artisans who organized themselves to represent the demands of the communities of the Jauaperi River.
The association works against predatory fishing, coordinates a turtle protection project and works to keep the forest standing.
Its craft production derives from the collection of plant remains from trunks already felled by loggers, abandoned in the forest and considered to have no commercial value.
AMAZON
The Amazon will always be a source of human attention and curiosity.
It is home to the greatest biodiversity on the planet, where ancestral peoples and unique cultures still reside, shaped by millennia of an equally unique biome. Some call it The Great Forest, others the Water Planet, and still others the Lungs of the World. We can assure you that the Amazon is almost all of these things, and a few more secrets that we will reveal.

Our regular itineraries last from 3 to 8 nights and explore the Anavilhanas Archipelago, the second largest river archipelago in the world, to the most remote regions of the Jauaperi River, on the border with Roraima. We also offer personalized trips (charters), available throughout the year, adapted to the interests of each group.
The result of years of territorial exploration, each Katerre itinerary is built on the basis of local partnerships and unique discoveries.
Sailing with Katerre is experiencing the Amazon in an intimate, safe and transformative way.

Authenticity is completed by the crew, who welcome visitors with genuine kindness and friendliness. Katerre employs local people so that they can contribute their talent and local knowledge – whether it’s preparing the home-cooked food served on board, maintaining the vessels, or serving as expert tour guides of the forest, among other tasks and occupations.
*** There is no 4G signal along the navigation routes, but Katerre has Wi-Fi connection on board. However, we suggest that visitors disconnect to indulge in this experience in the deep nature of the Amazon.
